DOWN ROYAL RACECOURSE CONTINUES THEIR SUPPORT OF THE RACEHORSE TO RIDING HORSE LEAGUE
Down Royal Racecourse are proud to once again sponsor the Racehorse to Riding Horse league in the Northern region as well as extending to individual classes south of the border including the festival at Equi Festival, Mulligar.
Racehorse to Riding Horse Ireland, run by Julie Morris, organises showing and performance classes to encourage ex-racehorses to be used in equine disciplines outside of racing. Down Royal is sponsoring the League of showing classes which are run on a retraining basis with score sheets designed to judge the horses on their control, obedience and manners, any blemishes or knocks are not taken into account.
Mike Todd, General Manager of Down Royal Racecourse, commented, "Down Royal Racecourse is pleased to fully support Julie in her aim to rehabilitate and retrain ex-racehorses to adapt to a life outside of racing. We hope that our support of this league as well as individual classes will encourage more competitors to take part and spread awareness of the potential of ex-racehorses.”
The Down Royal league returns with Open ridden Racehorse Classes at Five County Shows, including Ballymoney, Lurgan, Armagh, Saintfield and Newry. Competitors must attend at least three outings to qualify, and the league is based on the points awarded by the judge on the ridden section.
This means that although a competitor may win the individual class on the overall score, the league will be based on the ridden score, as racehorse to riding horse Ireland is all about the rehabilitation and retraining of the horse and how it has settled as a general riding animal.
Each competitor will receive complimentary entrance tickets for the Magners Race Evening on Friday 22nd July at Down Royal Racecourse.
The final will be held at Lessans Summer Show in Saintfield on Sunday 17th July with a Silver Salver to the winner, and prizes for the runners up.
