Gary Halpin does the double

YOUNG Dublin jockey Gary Halpin has been in fantastic form this year and he continued his hot streak at Down Royal this evening with an 89-1 double on Flirt and Knights Templar. Halpin was having his first ever ride for top trainer David Wachman and he made it a winning one as Flirt battled bravely to a narrow win over Fair Game in the Belfast Live Nursery Handicap. She was returned at odds of 9-1. Knights Templar was also sent off at 9-1 and Halpin swooped late and fast on Pat Flynn's charge to win the Daily Mirror Handicap by one length from Twistandturns who completed a 1-2 for Flynn in the race. Meanwhile, there was a thrilling finish to the feature At The Races App Ulster Cesarewitch Handicap as the Willie Mullins-trained Whiteout, ridden by Declan McDonogh, dead-head with He'llberemembered under Tom 'Socks' Madden.
