Gordon Elliott, fresh from his Punchestown treble on Tuesday, sends a team of 5 to the Ulster track including Robin Des Mana seeking his fourth career victory and his second around this course. He is partnered by Davy Russell, on board also when scoring over a similar trip at Punchestown in December. Ireland’s champion trainer Willie Mullins has ground to make up on Elliott in this season’s title race and trails him by over €590,000. The Closutton trainer, who has two runners on the card, is represented by Bravissimo whose sole career win came in a Limerick Maiden Hurdle during Christmas 2016. Paul Townend is booked to partner the seven-year-old grey owned by Rich and Susannah Ricci.

The quartet of runners is completed by the Tom Taaffe-trained Goose Man who opened his account over fences at Navan in December and Inis Meain who makes the long trip from the Cloughjordan stable of trainer/rider Denis Hogan who was seen to good effect when winning aboard Moyhenna at Punchestown on Tuesday afternoon.

The going at Down Royal is currently heavy.
