Don Cossack, Winner of the Gr2 Powers Irish Whiskey Chase at Down Royal Festival is Bookies Favourite for the John Durkan

3 Dec 2014
CHELTENHAM GOLD CUP hero Lord Windermere will take on Punchestown Gold Cup winner Boston Bob on Sunday but it is Don Cossack the bookmakers expect to come out on top in the Grade 1 John Durkan Memorial Chase at Punchestown on Sunday.
Don Cossack has already won two races this season, a Grade 3 at Punchestown and the Grade 2 Powers Irish Whiskey Chase here last month, and Paddy Power make the in-form chaser 5-4 market leader to complete the hat-trick on the weekend, just ahead of 6-4 chance Boston Bob, who finished third on his return, in the Gr1 JNwine.com Champion Chase at the Down Royal Festival also.
A total of nine contenders remain in the €80,000 feature with the likes of First Lieutenant, who came 4th after Boston Bob in the Jnwine.com Champion Chase and Texas Jack, 3rd placed in the Gr2 Powers Irish Whiskey Steeplechase are still in the mix for a race won by the likes of Kicking King, Beef Or Salmon, and Florida Pearl in recent years, all of which are past Down Royal Racecourse Champions.
